About

Frank Kapusta
My introduction to photography began back in my Navy days. With my new Pentax K1000 and ample guidance from a friend, I started shooting black and white 35mm film and in due time, I also learned the art of the dark room. Eventually, family and career took over where I had little time to devote to photography. Almost 30 years later and thanks to my brother, I have once again picked up the camera. While technology has changed, the basics have remained the same.
Armed with a new Nikon D5100 and a 35-55mm kit lens my brother took me on my first photo-walk and I haven’t looked back since. I spent the next several years experimenting with different disciplines and found that while I enjoyed many of them, and still do, my passion is portraiture.
From a technical perspective, I moved up to a Nikon D7100 as one of the most advanced DX camera. My time with the D7100 helped me to expand my technical experience to understand and utilize the many features of an advanced DSLR. With my focus moving towards portrait photography, I upgraded to a full frame camera, the Nikon D750. While I appreciate the benefits of zoom lens, I concentrate on the use of prime lens within my disciplines. Of course for portrait work, I rely on the tried and true 85mm. Having said that, there is one zoom that is highly desirable upon portrait photographers and is on my bucket list…the 70-200mm f/2.8. Coupled with umbrellas, soft boxes, and a variety of backdrops, my strobe lights of choice are Alien Bees. With a primary focus on family portraiture, I look forward to expanding into corporate portrait work in 2016.
Finally, I combined my photography with my first passion…woodworking. As a master cabinet maker, my father was my instructor and mentor in the art of woodworking. I now bring my images from composition to the gallery with custom framing.
